Description of Significance THE CARNEGIE LIBRARY IN GUTHRIE HAS BEEN THE SCENE OF NUMEROUS EVENTS IMPORTANT IN OKLAHOMAS HISTORY. THESE INCLUDE THE INAUGURATION OF BOTH THE LAST OF THE TERRITORIAL GOVERNORS AND THE FIRST STATE GOVERNOR. IT WAS THE SECOND CARNEGIE LIBRARY TO BE BUILT IN THE STATE. THE LIBRARY IS A TWO-STORY BUILDING WITH A BASEMENT. AN ADDITION WAS MADE TO THE BUILDING IN THE 1970S TO SERVED AS THE OKLAHOMA TERRITORIAL MUSEUM. LISTED IN NATIONAL REGISTER 6/21/1971.
